According to Wikipedia Prabhu Deva Sundaram (Tamil: பிரபு தேவா சுந்தரம்) (Kannada ಪ್ರಭು ದೇವ ಸುಂದರಂ) (born April 3, 1973) is an award-winning choreographer, dancer, actor and film director in India. He has been called "India's Michael Jackson" for his fast-paced dance movements. While he is mainly involved in Tamil cinema, he has also contributed to filmmaking in other Indian film industries, including Telugu cinema, Kannada cinema, and Hindustani cinema. He has won a number of awards for his elaborate dance sequences, including two National Awards for Best Choreography, a Filmfare Best Choreography Award, and a Filmfare Best Choreography Award (Telugu). He has also won a Best Director award for the film Pokkiri.

Biography

Prabhu Deva Sundaram was born in Mysore, India on April 3, 1973, and grew up in Alwarpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was inspired by his father, Sundaram who was a dance master for popular south-indian movies. He took dancing as his career and passion, by learning Bharatanatyam and Western dance styles. His brothers Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad are also South-Indian choreographers. From choreography he went on to establish himself as an actor. His dance steps helped him become a star in Kollywood (the Tamil film industry). His first movie as a dance director was Vetri Vizha. He has since choreographed over 100 movies. Before starting as a full time actor, he did song sequences in films, beginning with Gentleman (1993). His first movie as a hero was in Kadhalan (1994) with actress Nagma. Sundaram's success resulted largely from his dancing. He has a significant fan following in the Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film industry. He acted alongside his brothers in the movie 123.

Personal Life

Married to Latha, Prabhu Deva has three sons - Vishal aka Basavraj, Rishi Raghavendra Deva and Adith Deva.

Prabhu Deva's, 13-year-old son, Vishal aka Basavraj passed away at 3.30 am, on thursday the 4th December 2008. Vishal, who was lovingly called Basavraj, was the eldest amongst the three siblings the other two being Rishi and Aditya. Vishal had been diagnosed with cancer last year.The family was aware that Vishal's condition was terminal. A source close to the actor said, "Prabhu Deva did not leave any stone unturned to cure his son. He even consulted doctors abroad. But his condition had become serious."
