Malavallii Huche Gowda Ambareesh or M.H.Ambaresh (Kannada:ಅಂಬರೀಶ್) (known as Rebel-Star Ambareesh and Mandya-da Gandu) born 20 May 1952 at Maddur Taluk in Mandya District of Karnataka State is a Kannada film actor. He is also a prominent politician from Karnataka state.

Film career
Ambareesh began his career with minor roles. He has donned the roles of the antagonist in the film "Nagara Havu" which was also the debut movie of Vishnuvardhan. Ambareesh was introduced to filmdom by the late director Puttanna Kanagal through this movie. He continued to act in other Puttanna Kanagal movies like Paduvara Halli Panddavaru, Shuba Mangala, Ranganayaki & he has acted in more than 200 films.

Ambareesh's major box office hit was "Antha" [The End] which was released in 1981, directed by Mr. Rajendra Singh Babu a close friend of Ambareesh since childhood, which took him to stardom and created ripples in political Circles because of the controversial subject. It was first Indian movie which showed corrupt politicians and government officials as villains. "Antha" was remade later in Tamil and Hindi also. "Chakravyuha", was another trend setter and major hit in his career which ran for more than a year in Bangalore, Again this movie was also remade in Hindi with Amitabachan in lead named "Inqulaab".Chakravyuha also showed politcians in bad light and massacre of them.This theme later was copied by many Indian movies including Hindi. His other notable films include Ranganayaki, Antha, Tony, Rani Maharani, Hrudaya Haaditu, Hongkongnalli Agent Amar, Mannina Doni and Oda Huttidavaru. Many of his roles were tailored to give him an image of an angry young man who was the victim of the corrupt system. His roles always portrayed rebellion against the system.

He received positive reviews for his performance in "Elu Suthina Kote" directed by late Mr. Gowrishankar, "New Delhi" Directed by Johsi (remake of Malayalam Film), "Inderjith" directed by K.V.Raju. "DIGGAJARU" directed by Rajendra Babu and "GOWDRU" directed by S. Mahendar. These films showcased him in an entirely different character which was a contrast from his rebel image, he was applauded for his calm and restrained performance.

Ambareesh's list of close friends include his "KUCHIKU" Vishnuvardhan, Rajanikanth, Mammotty, Shatrugna sinha, Mohanbabu.
He used his star power to enter politics and joined Indian National Congress.

Politics
He is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Mandya constituency of Karnataka and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party.
He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha from Mandya Parliamentary Constituency as member of the Janata Dal. He later joined the Indian National Congress and has since continued to represent the same Mandya Lok Sabha constituency for two more terms. Minister in UPA
M.H. Ambareesh joined the cabinet of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting. He took the oath on October 24, 2006. He however resigned from the Union Council of Ministers over the cauvery issue[citation needed].
